Apple might have just leaked its own upcoming MacBook Pro, possibly revealing some details about two new products that might be coming soon. September’s Apple event brought camera improvements to the iPhone 13, a larger curved display to the Apple Watch Series 7, and a whole new design to the iPad mini 6. Apple might not be finished with new its 2021 announcements, however.
The MacBook lineup has had at least two sizes available for the last several years, which is the case right now with two 13.3-inch models and one 16-inch size. However, the larger 16-inch size makes use of an Intel chip, while the 13-inch model is powered by Apple Silicon. The older, larger, 9th Gen Intel model is almost twice the price of the new 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro while being slower and somewhat outdated. Apple keeps selling the model because it might deliver better graphics performance with its dedicated AMD Radeon Pro GPU and it offers higher capacity memory and storage options. Although it’s not the slick and efficient new model, it gets the job done.

A recent discovery by MacRumors suggests that a new, larger MacBook Pro is coming for those Apple customers eager for something faster and better. The information was found in the latest macOS beta update. Monterey beta 7 contains two new screen resolutions, one that is higher than ever seen before for a MacBook Pro. At 3024 x 1964 and 3456 x 2234 pixels, these might align with earlier rumors of two new Apple laptops, a 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. There’s already a 13.3-inch M1 MacBook Pro, so new models are likely to feature a faster chip, possibly named the Apple M1X or M2.
Other MacBook Pro Details
Two new MacBook Pros are rumored to be coming before the end of 2021 and are generally expected to be in 14 and 16-inch sizes. The new Apple laptops are expected to arrive in October or November. Besides the more powerful processor, there has been speculation that Apple might be getting rid of the Touch Bar, a ‘love it or hate it’ feature that replaced the function keys with a touch-based panel. Since these rumored new devices would replace the large Intel MacBook Pro, it would be safe to assume higher capacities will come with the updated Mac laptops. More ports and possibly the return of the MagSafe MacBook charger have also been suggested by various sources.
The latest leak might imply slightly higher resolution displays are coming to new MacBook Pro models. On the other hand, it could mean a larger MacBook Pro is on the way. A 17-inch model was released in 2011, so Apple might go big again. If Apple keeps the same pixel density that the current 16-inch model has, the resolution uncovered might point to an 18-inch model. There have been no other leaks or rumors that suggest such a large device, and it will most likely be a 14 and 16-inch Apple Silicon MacBook Pro revealed in the next few weeks.
