In Marvel’s What If…?, the fan-favorite Marvel Zombies made their transition from comics to the screen but with a few significant differences. Although both versions follow a similar storyline as the dwindling few heroes struggle to survive while trying to cure the virus that has overtaken their world, the episodes’ ending went in a  completely different direction with a familiar threat making itself known instead of Earth’s Hungriest Heroes taking their mission into space like in the comics. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In Marvel Zombies by Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips, the Marvel heroes from a parallel dimension have an infected hero appear from…

When it comes to the advancement of technology and how it shapes and changes humanity in movies, the automations — be they humanoid or stereotypical machine-looking robots — usually evolve to become menaces upon society, villains created at the hands of people that got out of control. Or, in the case of Black Mirror, advanced to the point of complete and destructive immersion, lifestyles controlled by likes and simulated programming. In I’m Your Man (Ich bin dein Mensch in its original German), director Maria Schrader — working from a screenplay she co-wrote with Jan Schomburg and is inspired by the short…

To be a ballerina is to have incredible discipline and determination. With all the sacrifices — both physical and emotional — that go into ballet training, it’s no wonder that the profession makes for such great drama. The most famous example of this is perhaps Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. Amazon’s latest original movie, Birds of Paradise, might not be as highbrow, but it’s still fascinatingly entertaining. Written and directed by Sarah Adina Smith and based on the novel Bright Burning Stars by A.K. Small, the atmospheric feature digs into a thorny relationship between two aspiring dancers to varying degrees of success. While Birds of Paradise stumbles…

Dear Evan Hansen’s initial marketing campaign sparked a lot of discussion surrounding Ben Platt, who originated the eponymous role in the 2015 Broadway stage musical of the same name, playing a teenager well into his late 20s. To his credit, he’s not the first or the last person to do so in films or on television. However, Platt playing a high school senior is the least of the movie musical adaptation’s problems. Directed by Stephen Chbosky from a screenplay by Steven Levenson, who also wrote the play with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, Dear Evan Hansen…

The Guilty, director Antoine Fuqua’s latest feature, is one of the many American remakes of international hits that don’t quite get what made the original, a Danish film from director Gustav Möller, so special. Many of these remakes are often of films that have rather precise narratives, with specific events or twists that the audience didn’t see coming the first time, which then gets retold for American audiences. The Guilty is no different. If one were to have never seen the original, then it is a fairly good suspense-filled drama that showcases much of what we like from Fuqua, screenwriter Nic Pizzolatto, and actor…

The horror movie genre will be getting a boost in the fall months of 2021, with the titles set to release between September the end of November. After a year of uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was unclear how the movie industry would recover, especially when it comes to theatrical releases. Interestingly enough, the horror genre has helped immensely in jump-starting interest in returning to theaters. In addition, streamers continue to bolster their horror offerings, especially Netflix. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Because of lingering shutdowns, the heavy-hitting releases didn’t start dropping until the spring months, specifically May. First,…

v Here’s a guide to every movie releasing across all platforms in Fall 2021, and where you can find them. The past 18 months have been incredibly difficult for everyone, but as countries step-up their vaccination efforts, some parts of the world are showing early signs of escaping the grip of COVID-19. First and foremost, this means a long-awaited reprieve from the impact this virus has inflicted upon so many. Beyond that, lowering numbers allow normality to inch closer, and populations can begin enjoying the things we all took for granted in 2019. And, for our purposes, that also means movies are making a comeback. SCREENRANT VIDEO…

When people think of Marvel movies, they usually think about the MCU (unsurprising as it has now become the largest movie franchise ever and regularly dominates the international box office) — however, the MCU does not account for all of the many Marvel movies that will release in the next few years. Some rights to Marvel properties still lie with Sony Pictures Entertainment, and while they have an ongoing relationship with Marvel and Disney at this point, it is unclear exactly how their movies will tie into the MCU. New Marvel updates on movies from both studios are revealed almost…

In its most recent Direct presentation, Nintendo announced select N64 and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games will soon be coming to Nintendo Switch Online. The caveat, however, is that they require another subscription. The Switch Nintendo 64 and Genesis titles are only available to those who opt into the new NSO + Expansion Pack plan, launching in late October. Nintendo has not revealed the pricing for this new service, but it will presumably tack on an additional fee. Charging extra to access Nintendo’s latest round of decades-old ports is entirely anti-consumer, especially when the standard NSO subscription offers so little. Does a new promo image confirm The Flash’s secret villain is actually Red Death? Arguably the most exciting (studio-sanctioned) DCEU movie since Man of Steel, Andy Muschietti’s The Flash stars Ezra Miller, once again playing the socially-awkward Barry Allen. Unfortunately for Barry, his social circle is about to become a whole lot bigger. Not only does The Flash mark Ben Affleck’s DCEU return and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl debut but, over 30 years since first pulling on the cowl, Michael Keaton is back as the Tim Burton-era Caped Crusader. Clearly taking the DC franchise in a multiverse direction, there’s no telling who else might turn up -…

One of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’s most unique and recognizable aspects is the Stand, a manifestation of the user’s soul that fights (and “stands”) alongside them. While Stands were only introduced in part 3, Stardust Crusaders, they quickly became the norm, and all subsequent parts have focused heavily on Stands, Stand Users, and their origins. Stands can be quite complex, however, so it’s good to have a clear idea of just what a Stand entails. How Does One Get a Stand? Right from the start, Stands can manifest in a variety of different ways. Jotaro’s Stand, Star Platinum, begins to manifest…
