Apple’s new Stolen Device Protection feature is now available to all iPhone users after the company released a preview of the security measure last month. The iOS 17.3 update is designed to protect users from phone thieves who have acquired a device’s passcode, giving them access to a trove of iPhone users’ personal information. Apple developed the feature “as threats to user devices continue to evolve,” a company spokesperson told CBS MoneyWatch in December. What the Stolen Device Protection feature doesApple says Stolen Device Protection mode adds an extra layer of security when someone is using their iPhone away from home, work…
To be a ballerina is to have incredible discipline and determination. With all the sacrifices — both physical and emotional — that go into ballet training, it’s no wonder that the profession makes for such great drama. The most famous example of this is perhaps Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. Amazon’s latest original movie, Birds of Paradise, might not be as highbrow, but it’s still fascinatingly entertaining. Written and directed by Sarah Adina Smith and based on the novel Bright Burning Stars by A.K. Small, the atmospheric feature digs into a thorny relationship between two aspiring dancers to varying degrees of success. While Birds of Paradise stumbles…
Dear Evan Hansen’s initial marketing campaign sparked a lot of discussion surrounding Ben Platt, who originated the eponymous role in the 2015 Broadway stage musical of the same name, playing a teenager well into his late 20s. To his credit, he’s not the first or the last person to do so in films or on television. However, Platt playing a high school senior is the least of the movie musical adaptation’s problems. Directed by Stephen Chbosky from a screenplay by Steven Levenson, who also wrote the play with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, Dear Evan Hansen…
The Guilty, director Antoine Fuqua’s latest feature, is one of the many American remakes of international hits that don’t quite get what made the original, a Danish film from director Gustav Möller, so special. Many of these remakes are often of films that have rather precise narratives, with specific events or twists that the audience didn’t see coming the first time, which then gets retold for American audiences. The Guilty is no different. If one were to have never seen the original, then it is a fairly good suspense-filled drama that showcases much of what we like from Fuqua, screenwriter Nic Pizzolatto, and actor…
The horror movie genre will be getting a boost in the fall months of 2021, with the titles set to release between September the end of November. After a year of uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was unclear how the movie industry would recover, especially when it comes to theatrical releases. Interestingly enough, the horror genre has helped immensely in jump-starting interest in returning to theaters. In addition, streamers continue to bolster their horror offerings, especially Netflix. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Because of lingering shutdowns, the heavy-hitting releases didn’t start dropping until the spring months, specifically May. First,…
v Here’s a guide to every movie releasing across all platforms in Fall 2021, and where you can find them. The past 18 months have been incredibly difficult for everyone, but as countries step-up their vaccination efforts, some parts of the world are showing early signs of escaping the grip of COVID-19. First and foremost, this means a long-awaited reprieve from the impact this virus has inflicted upon so many. Beyond that, lowering numbers allow normality to inch closer, and populations can begin enjoying the things we all took for granted in 2019. And, for our purposes, that also means movies are making a comeback. SCREENRANT VIDEO…
When people think of Marvel movies, they usually think about the MCU (unsurprising as it has now become the largest movie franchise ever and regularly dominates the international box office) — however, the MCU does not account for all of the many Marvel movies that will release in the next few years. Some rights to Marvel properties still lie with Sony Pictures Entertainment, and while they have an ongoing relationship with Marvel and Disney at this point, it is unclear exactly how their movies will tie into the MCU. New Marvel updates on movies from both studios are revealed almost…
Netflix has released an exclusive clip from their new Kanye West documentary jeen-yuhs. Kanye West, the rapper, record producer, designer, and near-mythic figure, has had many chart-topping singles including “Gold Digger,” “Stronger,” and “Heartless.” He is also best known to reality TV fans as the man who married and then had a fabulously expensive divorce from Kim Kardashian. jeen-yuhs will cover two decades of West’s career, and is described by Netflix as “an intimate and revealing portrait of Kanye’s experience.” The doc was directed by Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah, a directing duo previously known as “Coodie and Chike.” The pair have directed…
In its most recent Direct presentation, Nintendo announced select N64 and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games will soon be coming to Nintendo Switch Online. The caveat, however, is that they require another subscription. The Switch Nintendo 64 and Genesis titles are only available to those who opt into the new NSO + Expansion Pack plan, launching in late October. Nintendo has not revealed the pricing for this new service, but it will presumably tack on an additional fee. Charging extra to access Nintendo’s latest round of decades-old ports is entirely anti-consumer, especially when the standard NSO subscription offers so little. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The standard Nintendo…
Does a new promo image confirm The Flash’s secret villain is actually Red Death? Arguably the most exciting (studio-sanctioned) DCEU movie since Man of Steel, Andy Muschietti’s The Flash stars Ezra Miller, once again playing the socially-awkward Barry Allen. Unfortunately for Barry, his social circle is about to become a whole lot bigger. Not only does The Flash mark Ben Affleck’s DCEU return and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl debut but, over 30 years since first pulling on the cowl, Michael Keaton is back as the Tim Burton-era Caped Crusader. Clearly taking the DC franchise in a multiverse direction, there’s no telling who else might turn up -…
Former Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Scott Disick has unfollowed the whole Kardashian-Jenner clan and his ex-girlfriend Amelia Gray on social media. Scott has been going through a lot in his personal life, and it seems he wants to distance himself from those who were once close to him. The reality star recently ended his relationship with Amelia after less than a year together following a direct message he sent to Younes Bendjima, who also dated Kourtney Kardashian. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The direct message included an image of Kourtney and her current love, Travis Barker, kissing on a boat while…
One of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’s most unique and recognizable aspects is the Stand, a manifestation of the user’s soul that fights (and “stands”) alongside them. While Stands were only introduced in part 3, Stardust Crusaders, they quickly became the norm, and all subsequent parts have focused heavily on Stands, Stand Users, and their origins. Stands can be quite complex, however, so it’s good to have a clear idea of just what a Stand entails. How Does One Get a Stand? Right from the start, Stands can manifest in a variety of different ways. Jotaro’s Stand, Star Platinum, begins to manifest…
Marvel is suing the heirs of some of the company’s most notable creators in an attempt to retain the rights to characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the Avengers. Over the past two decades, the comic company’s biggest heroes have grown from comic book characters to pop culture superstars, with the MCU becoming the dominant force in global film. However, despite Marvel’s recent success, its characters are still subject to copyright law. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Under copyright law, creators or their families or estates can file to reclaim the rights to characters or franchises they made after a…
NASA and Congress clashed in a debate over the future of the ISS while the increasing space capabilities of China and Russia loom in the background. NASA is expected to deliver a second transition plan for the International Space Station in a couple of weeks. US Congress members pressed the organization to deliver robust results, but the two sides still don’t appear to be seeing eye-to-eye. The latest string of events taking place in the new space race has Congress members worried. The ISS emergency spin caused by the Russian Nakua module and the structural integrity of the station has…
The iPhone 13 is the latest and greatest iPhone money can buy, but unfortunately, Apple has now warned of a pesky Apple Music bug plaguing its newest handsets. Overall, the iPhone 13 has a lot going for it. It may not be the most exciting year-over-year upgrade, but for folks switching from an older iPhone, there’s a lot on offer. There’s an updated design, smaller notch, all-new cameras, better displays, etc. However, as is the case with any new gadget, the launch experience is never 100 percent flawless. There can be faulty hardware, pesky software bugs, shipping delays, etc. This is seen across the…
NASA’s Hubble telescope has helped spot six ancient, dead galaxies, allowing a team of researchers to solve the mystery as to why the process of star formation stops in some galaxies. After an initial phase of very active star formation, a majority of galaxies are known to tone it down and achieve a constant rate at which new stars are created. The raw ingredients for making a star happen to be the clouds of dust and gas in a galaxy, which accrete in a region to form a dense core that eventually starts a nuclear reaction to emit heat and…
