The Battery Doorbell Plus is the latest doorbell from Ring, but how is it different from the Video Doorbell Pro 2? Ring is an American home security company that was founded in 2013 and originally known as Doorbot. Five years later, it became a subsidiary of Amazon following the tech giant's acquisition of the company. While Ring is best known for its home security products, it has expanded its portfolio to include car security products.
The Battery Doorbell Plus, as the name says, is a battery-powered video doorbell priced at $179.99 with a design similar to the Video Doorbell 4. On the other hand, the Video Doorbell Pro 2 costs more, at $249.99; lacks a battery, so it needs to be hardwired; and has a slimmer design. The Video Doorbell Pro 2 has more features overall, but there are some similarities between the two offerings.

Smart Doorbells Compared: Features & Capabilities
Although the Battery Doorbell Plus has a built-in rechargeable battery, it can also be hardwired like the Video Doorbell Pro 2 if a user wishes. Power source aside, both video doorbells have an HD+ video resolution of 1536p and support for color night vision. One of the main new features of the Battery Doorbell Plus is support for 'Head-to-Toe' field of view. The wider field of view allows owners to see what package deliveries were dropped at their doorstep and more of what is happening at the front door. This feature is also available on the Video Doorbell Pro 2.
The two doorbells also have two-way-talk, but the Video Doorbell Pro 2's 'Audio+' feature adds enhanced sound and echo cancelation. Another similarity between them is motion detection, however, only the Video Doorbell Pro 2 has '3D Motion Detection.' The feature, which was first announced in 2021, allows users to create a virtual threshold. After it has been set up, the camera only begins to record when someone passes the threshold.
The '3D Motion Detection' feature uses radar technology which also powers another exclusive feature of the Doorbell Pro 2 called 'Bird's Eye View.' 'Bird's Eye View' shows an aerial view of the exact path a visitor took or crossed on the property before live-streaming begins, or before they crossed the threshold. The Battery Doorbell Plus and the Video Doorbell Pro 2 have support for 'Package Alerts' and 'Quick Replies.'
More Options With Video Doorbell Pro 2
In addition, the Video Doorbell Pro 2 has a feature called 'Built-in Alexa Greetings' which allows the doorbell to greet visitors, accept deliveries, and take messages when the owner can't come to the front door. Furthermore, while both doorbell cameras can be controlled using the Ring app or an Alexa-enabled device, those who purchase the Video Doorbell Pro 2 should enjoy a better connection as it has support for dual-band Wi-Fi. It also has a feature called 'Pre-Roll,' a video preview which provides a few seconds of footage of what triggered a motion alert.
At $179, the Battery Doorbell Plus offers some very useful features, such as its wider field of view and package alerts (which requires a Ring subscription). It also has a built-in battery, which is a plus for those who live in places where there are power cuts. However, the more expensive Video Doorbell Pro 2 tries to justify its higher price tag with features such as '3D Motion Detection,' 'Bird's Eye View,' and 'Built-in Alexa Greetings.' However, whether these additional features are worth paying an extra $70 for the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 depends on a user's requirements.
