Swedish electric vehicle brand Polestar has updated its popular Polestar 2 all-electric fastback with more powerful motors, a beefier battery, and a host of new features. The Polestar 2 is currently the only all-electric vehicle in the company’s portfolio, while the Polestar 1 is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Last year, the company announced the Polestar 3 electric SUV and revealed plans to build the Polestar 6 all-electric roadster based on the O2 concept. The Polestar 3, which is expected to launch first, will compete in an increasingly crowded electric SUV space against a slew of vehicles from Rivian, Tesla, BMW, Chevrolet, Hyundai, and others.

The 2024 Polestar 2 comes in a single-motor RWD avatar with an 82kWh battery pack, which is larger than the 78kWh unit on the Dual Motor model. The larger battery helps the 2024 Single Motor Polestar register an improved driving range that goes up to an EPA-estimated 300 miles on a single charge. That is an 11 percent increase over the 270-mile range of the FWD version released last year. The larger battery charges at 205kW, which is much faster than the 155kW charging speed of the last year's model.

All new Polestar 2 variants also come with next-generation electric motors that improve performance and efficiency. The new RWD model has a 220 kW, 299 hp permanent magnet motor with 361 lb-ft of torque. Both figures are significantly higher than the FWD variant's 231 hp motor with 243 lb-ft of torque. The increased horsepower and torque result in better performance, with Polestar claiming a 0-60 speed of 5.9 seconds, down from seven seconds in the FWD model.
The Long Range Dual Motor Polestar 2 now has an optional Performance Pack that can be unlocked with an OTA update. Once the pack is applied, the vehicle gets up to 455 hp, up from 421 hp without the pack. The extra power helps it to go from 0-60 in just 4.1 seconds. Despite the increased performance, Polestar says the range remains at 270 miles with the 78kWh battery.
Another notable feature in the 2024 Polestar 2 is the addition of new standard equipment that the company says increases overall value and convenience. Driver Awareness features are now standard, while the Long Range Dual Motor model also ships with the Pilot Pack, which features a "Blind Spot Information System with steering support, Cross Traffic Alert with brake support, Rear Collision Warning Mitigation system, Adaptive Cruise Control, 360-degree camera, Pilot Assist, auto-dimming door mirrors and LED front fog lights with cornering assist." The company is now offering a wireless phone charger as standard for all Polestar 2 models.
